 PAC-Net COLLABORATES WITH UMUADA IGBO: ENLIGHTENS RURAL WOMEN ON SAFE MOTHERHOOD AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS Emphasizes Antenatal Care and Delivery in Orthodox Health Facilities.Safe motherhood remains the key to effective reduction of maternal and child mortality. This was the basis for the enlightenment program conducted by  PAC-Net in collaboration with Umuada Igbo, a non-governmental organization of Igbo-speaking women in Nigeria and the Diaspora, for rural women in various communities in Anambra State of Nigeria.Three communities in Anambra State - Ekwuluobia, Amawbia and Awkuzu benefited from these reproductive health rallies sponsored by IPAS Nigeria. The key resource person to these rallies, Prof. J.I.B. Adinma gave an overview of reproductive health, enlightening the women on infertility, good antenatal care with clean delivery, child immunization and family planning.He also spoke on the signs and symptoms of menopause as well as sex selection. In her lecture, Barrister Mrs. Ayogu enlightened the rural women on several aspect of reproductive right including the need for them to have their marriages registered with the marriage registry so as to facilitate their rights to inheritance of their family properties. She also spoke extensively on the problems of rape and ravages of unsafe abortion. IPAS representative Saraphina Ojimaduka also spoke on the work of IPAS Nigeria in various parts of Nigeria. She joined in advising women to change their health-seeking behavior, avoiding quacks and patronizing orthodox health facilities for all their reproductive health problems. The rallies were very interactive, the women being encouraged to comment freely and ask questions on all aspect of reproductive health care that are confounding to them.
