PAC-Net 3RD BIENNIAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE TURNS OUT A HUGE SUCCESS

Enugu the capital City of Enugu State, South-eastern Nigeria, played host to the joint 9th AGM & 3rd Biennial Conference of PAC-Net. The meeting which was held at Modotels G.R.A. was attended by members drawn from the PAC-Net constituent States of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, all totalling no fewer than 200. The biennial conference proper was preceded by am AGM held on the evening of 6th Dec 2012, attended by delegates and members. Members deliberated on issues of importance bordering on the thematic areas of the organisation - Advocacy, Clinical Services, Training and Research. The 3rd biennial conference was also conclusively deliberated upon. The 3rd biennial conference/Award Nite took place on the 7th Dec 2012 under the distinguish chairmanship of Emeritus Professor Festus A. Nwakor, former Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University and past president of West African College of Surgeons. The conference was declared open by Dr. Fedelia Ugwu, Honourable Commissioner of Health for Enugu State Nigeria, who in her address exhaled the commitment and effort of PAC-Net towards the upliftment of maternal and Child Health and indeed reproductive health in general in South-eastern Nigeria.PAC-Net, which the honourable Commissioner described as Small but Mighty Organisation, has been carrying out reproductive health activities that are in consonant with the health care thrust of Enugu State.Highlight of the conference was the Symposium tailored after the Theme of the Conference- Making Pregnancy and Childbirth Safe in Nigeria. Three eminent presenters spoke at the symposium - Dr. H.U Ezegwui, who spoke on Overview of Safe Motherhood in Nigeria; Prof Nonye Aniebue who spoke on Safety-net to Maternal Mortality Reduction in Nigeria; and Prof Kunle Obidike, whose Presentation was titled Pregnancy Care and its effect on the Child. Several other Scientific Presentations were made by distinguished researchers at the conference at different plenary sections. Marie Stopes Nigeria also made a presentation concerning its activities under Blue Star Network.The Dinner/Award Nite which was equally attended by members and invited dignitaries and well wishers was held in the evening to crown the event of the day. It was a memorable evening of wining, dining and dancing. Highlight which was a presentations of Awards to two distinguish benefactors, Obstetrics/Gynaecologists Dr. Jude Okorue of Gynaescope Fertility Centre Port Harcourt for his achievement in assisted reproduction, and Dr. K Monago of Kandudi Specialist Hospital for his exemplary success in Community Obstetrics Practice.
