POST ABORTION CARE NETWORK (PAC-NET) HOLDS ADVOCACY AT SCHOOL OF NURSING NKPOR

The youth wing of South-east Post Abortion Care Network (PAC-Net) recently held reproductive health advocacy lectures at the school of Nursing & Midwifery Nkpor in Anambra State  Nigeria. Three lecture presentations were made titled- Overview of Reproductive Health Sexual and Reproductive Right, Unsafe Abortion; magnitude of the problem, both delivered by Prof Brian Adinma Co-ordinator of PAC-Net; and Youth Reproductive Health and Rights, delivered by Miss Onyinye Obiakor, Youth Wing Co-ordinator of Southeast PAC-Net.The lectures were attended by more than 300 students drawn from School of Nursing and Midwifery Nkpor. The presentations covered the components of Reproductive Health together with its life cycle approach. Womens Sexual and Reproductive Rights were also discussed together with their components, areas of abuse of Nigerian Women and recommended measures for their amelioration. Unsafe Abortion was also defined together with the magnitude of the problem, factors influencing unsafe abortion, and the role of health professionals in the combat of unsafe abortion. The reproductive rights of the youth and the adolescents were explained together with the expectations and responsibilities of health professionals in the promotion of the reproductive health and rights of the youths.In an earlier interaction with the students, Prof. Adinma had explained the structure and functions of PAC-Net as a philanthropic non-governmental organization with the primary role of promoting, upholding and protecting the sexual and reproductive rights of women. In attendance at this interactive meeting were the principals of School of Nursing - Mrs Ezekegbu and that of School of Midwifery  Mrs Ezenwa. Both principals had expressed their desire for the delivery of these lectures to their students; the topics of which they had submitted are contained in the curriculum of both the school of Nursing and that of Midwifery.Vote of thanks was delivered at the end of lectures by the schools PAC-Net representative - Mr. Emma Akosa
